Description
Role details
We are seeking a talented Service Attorney to join a fast-growing, AI-native legal services platform serving individuals and small businesses directly. In this role, you will be the licensed attorney of record behind the platform's automated and AI-assisted legal offerings, reviewing machine-generated work product, advising clients directly, and making sure every deliverable meets the professional judgment a client is entitled to.
This is a modern, tech-forward environment. The company uses AI-driven drafting, intake, and issue-spotting to remove repetitive administrative work, so the attorneys behind the platform can spend their time on direct client counsel and professional judgment instead of first-draft assembly.
What You'll Do
Client Advisory: Serve as the attorney of record for platform users, reviewing AI-drafted documents and providing plain-language legal advice on entity formation, contracts, and routine compliance matters.
Quality Control: Review and finalize AI-generated legal documents before they reach the client, catching issues the system missed and escalating anything outside the platform's scope.
Direct Consultations: Field client questions by phone, video, or chat, translating dense legal concepts into decisions a non-lawyer client can act on.
Feedback Loop: Flag recurring drafting errors, edge cases, and jurisdictional issues to the product and engineering teams so the underlying models keep improving.
Licensing & Compliance: Maintain active bar membership and ensure all client-facing advice and documents meet applicable rules of professional responsibility in the jurisdictions served.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience: JD and active bar membership in good standing (CA preferred; other major U.S. jurisdictions considered), with meaningful experience in business formation, contracts, or general small-business advisory work.
Client-Facing Comfort: Genuine enthusiasm for direct client contact and explaining legal concepts in plain English, not just producing work product for other lawyers.
Tech Fluency: Comfort reviewing and correcting AI-generated drafts, and giving structured, specific feedback on where a model's output falls short.
Judgment: Sound professional judgment about when a matter needs to escalate beyond the platform's standard offerings.
Why This Opportunity is Unique
High Client Volume, Low Administrative Drag: The platform's automation handles first-draft assembly and intake, so your time goes to actual counsel, not paperwork.
Meaningful Access: You are the named attorney behind a product real clients rely on, not a background reviewer.
Growth Path: Early attorneys on the service team have a direct hand in shaping how the platform scopes and delivers legal work as it grows.
