Description

Role details

Scale Up Counsel is searching for a Head of Legal for a business-immigration practice. The company behind the practice is not described on the open site; the introduction happens as you advance in the process.

The mandate (precise)

You own the legal quality of every matter type the group handles, including advice, preparation, and government-facing strategy across the main employment-based categories, at a level that matches sophisticated buyers and regulators.

You are accountable for the quality standard on drafting, RFE and denial response, client communication, and matter strategy; you set the review culture and the escalation ladder.

You run hiring, leveling, and performance for attorneys and professional staff, including a clear, fair bar for who stays in a client-facing seat.

You are expected to carry a serious business-development and account-retention load: origination, expansion, and the proof that the practice earns trust against incumbent firms, without this page naming anyone.

You partner on how tooling, knowledge management, and training fit the practice, including where automation is allowed and where a licensed lawyer must decide.

You set expectations for how AI and similar tools are used in daily practice so quality does not depend on ad hoc heroics.

Required

A decade or more in business and corporate employment-based immigration, with hands-on work across the main visa and green-card streams that employers rely on, not only a single narrow sub-type, unless the rest of your profile is exceptionally deep.

Demonstrated origination or a portable, reference-checkable book; we will ask.

Proven experience managing at least ten professionals (attorneys and/or paralegals) in a delivery environment, with consistent standards.

California bar in good standing; U.S. work authorization or path as applicable (details in process, not in this list).

Compensation

Total cash, bonus, and equity are only discussed with finalists, not a range in this listing.
